Why DOTScreener exists.
Freight brokers and shippers screen carriers every day. Most do it well. Almost none of them keep a contemporaneous, organized record of what they reviewed at the moment they tendered the load. DOTScreener turns the screening you already perform into a tamper-evident artifact — not because the law requires a specific tool, but because the lack of a record is the part that hurts the most when something goes wrong.
We're a small team building operational documentation infrastructure, not a directory, not a CRM, not a load board.
Who's behind this
A freight broker built this for freight brokers and shippers.
Mason Lavallet
Founder · DOTScreener
Owner · HEAT Freight
Mason is the owner of HEAT Freight, a working freight brokerage. DOTScreener grew directly out of that operation: a need for a single timestamped record showing what was reviewed at the moment a load was tendered, not a thread of emails and screenshots reconstructed after the fact.
The product reflects how a broker actually screens a carrier — not how a software vendor imagines that process. Every screening field, attestation prompt, and policy threshold exists because someone working a real freight desk asked for it.
We're not lawyers. We don't give legal advice. We build documentation infrastructure for an operational workflow that already exists.
How we work
The scope of the product is deliberately narrow. Here's what that means in practice.
We document the review.
DOTScreener pulls live FMCSA data, evaluates the carrier against your policy, captures the carrier's attestation, and assembles a timestamped Carrier Selection Record. Every screen produces one record.
We don't dispatch loads.
DOTScreener is not a TMS, not a load board, and not a load-management system. It doesn't block, prohibit, or guarantee any tender. The decision to use a carrier remains yours.
We don't promise legal outcomes.
The Carrier Selection Record is a tamper-evident contemporaneous artifact. It is not legal advice, not a guarantee of defense against any claim, and not a substitute for counsel.
We mirror /signup disclosure.
What you see at sign-up is what we operate under: documentation and risk-analysis tool, not a load-management or dispatch system, and not a guarantee of any safety or legal outcome.
Security & data
Straightforward, no exaggerated claims.
- FMCSA data is fetched live and not retained beyond what the screening artifact embeds. Each Carrier Selection Record contains the FMCSA snapshot as it existed at the moment of the screen.
- Carrier-uploaded documents (COIs, equipment lists, attestations) are stored in Supabase with row-level security so each org sees only its own data.
- Email is delivered via Resend from a verified
dotscreener.comsender. - We do not claim SOC 2. We'll say so when it's real. For enterprise vendor reviews, ask — we'll walk you through the actual posture honestly.
- Carrier Selection Records are SHA-256 hash-chained. The public verifier re-walks the chain so an outside party can confirm a record has not been altered since creation.
